Dear Mary's Child,
Advent is a time to come together as a family and celebrate the miracle of our salvation. Advent is an invitation to a more vibrant practice of your faith. Advent is a period of devotion and expectant delight.
Yet, in the midst of Advent, do you ever find stress bubbling to the surface? Do you struggle to find the peace Jesus promised midst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season?
Sometimes the small, quiet spaces you reserve for prayer can be harder to find. Your brain is buzzing. Your mental to-do list keeps scrolling through your consciousness. You have to fight the urge to fidget, and your hands want to keep busy.
Have you considered coloring as a prayerful meditation? You can immerse yourself in magnificent images and symbols. You can give your mind a place to escape that satisfies the urge to create and stay occupied. Coloring the Nativity combines the child-like joy of coloring with prayers, hymns, gospel passages, and some of the most beautiful pictures from the gospel story of Jesus’ birth.
This gift is not just for yourself. Invite your children, your grandchildren, and your friends to be with you as you color and explore the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. Soon, families will be traveling to meet and celebrate together. Just as Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem that first Christmas to their family’s ancestral home, you & I embrace that same tradition today of going home to be with our loved ones.
“And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea,
to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.” (Luke 2:4-5)
Come with me this Advent, as you and I join with Mary in expectant hope of her Son, our Savior.
In Jesus through Mary,
Brother Daniel Korn, C.Ss.R.
