Dear Mary's Child,
Christ our savior was born! Angels trumpeted! Shepherds came, praising God! All who heard it were amazed!
All of this excitement, following on the heels of a long journey, the stress of being turned away at the inn, and the pain of childbirth. What a roller coaster of emotions for Mary.
She responded by “keeping all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.” (Luke 2:19). She sat with God, in quiet contemplation of His work in her life. She prayed. After her reflection, she went to the Temple.
Mary knew God was at work in her. She knew she needed time each day to reflect, understanding how to walk with Him in her daily life. Mary was chosen beforehand to be the Mother of the Redeemer, and she shared intimately in his entire mission, remaining at her Son’s side to Calvary.
Through the icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Mary presents Jesus to you and me, the Word incarnate for our salvation, just as she showed her first-born son to the shepherds and Magi.
I know He is also at work in you. Like Mary, will you give Him time each day? Join me in a 9-day Novena to begin 2017, dedicating 15 minutes to quiet reflection each day.
In Jesus, through Mary,
Brother Daniel Korn, C.Ss.R.
Redemptorist Missionary of the Denver Province
